What we do
Local carpentry services, done properly
Good carpentry is mostly the part you never notice: doors that close without catching, floors that stay flat, and kitchen units that line up from one end of the room to the other.
PW Carpentry is a local carpentry team working with homeowners and businesses in Romsey and Southampton. Whether it's a character property that needs new work to sit comfortably beside the old, or a modern house that needs better storage, we plan the job around your home, your style and your budget. We're fully insured and professionally trained, and advice and quotes are free.
Why choose PW CarpentryOur services
Our carpentry services in Romsey and Southampton
Most of what people ask their local carpenter for falls into four areas: kitchens, doors, flooring and general carpentry.

Kitchens
New kitchens designed, supplied and fitted, from the units and worktops through to the finishing trims.

Doors
Bespoke doors, fire doors, new doors hung, and old doors repaired, re-sized or planed so they close properly.

Flooring
Solid oak, laminate and other floors laid, plus repairs that blend into the boards you already have.

General carpentry
Staircases, banister rails, built-in storage, shelving and the smaller jobs that are hard to find someone for.

We look and quote
We come to see the job where needed, suggest the best approach and give you a free quote.
We do the work
Measured, planned and fitted with care, using traditional methods alongside modern tools.
We leave it tidy
We keep disruption low, clean up as we go and check the finished job with you.
Honest pricing
What affects the price of carpentry
Every job is different, so we don't publish a price list. These are the things that make the biggest difference to your quote.
Size and scope
A single door takes far less than a whole kitchen, and several jobs done on one visit can make better use of the time.
Materials
Solid oak, engineered timber and laminate are priced very differently, as are door styles, worktops and hardware.
Made to measure or off the shelf
Anything built for a particular space takes more workshop and fitting time than a standard size.
What we find
Uneven floors, out-of-square frames and old repairs in older houses can add work, so we like to see the job first.
Customer reviews
Paul was very professional in his work. His workmanship was exemplary and I was particularly impressed with the care and attention he demonstrated in every aspect of the work required.
Fitted a new fire door - excellent service, good quality work, very helpful.
… Having spoken on the phone, he came to see the nature of the work, suggested a better solution, and gave me a fixed price. We arranged a date, but he called the next day, offering to come almost immediately. He carried out the work a day early, did exactly what was required to a high standard, and was courteous throughout. …
… He fitted some new door handles, plus a new lock, planed a couple of doors to stop them scraping, made a new door for a bathroom cabinet, and lined the doors of an existing wardrobe to stop dust getting in. His work is of a very high standard, and we would use him again without question.
This is the second time we have used Paul and again we are very pleased with his work. He was punctual and very pleasant. The dog flaps were quite complicated and fiddly to fit but Paul did an excellent job.
Very good, very pleased, very sociable got on well.
Very friendly and the work was very satisfactory, you can't fault him. Will be back at the end of month

Common questions
Carpentry questions we often hear
Do you cover Romsey and Southampton?
Yes. We work across Romsey, Southampton and the surrounding area, for both homes and commercial premises.
How much does a carpenter cost?
It depends on the size of the job, the materials and how much has to be made to measure, so we would rather quote for your job than give a guide price that may not apply. Advice and quotes are free, with no obligation.
Will you take on small jobs?
Yes. Plenty of our work is smaller jobs such as fitting locks and handles, easing doors that stick, or adding a banister rail. Saving up a few small jobs for one visit often works well.
How soon can you start?
That depends on the job and what we have booked in. Get in touch and we will give you an honest date. We aim to reply to every enquiry within 24 hours.
Can you work on older houses?
Yes. We use traditional as well as modern methods, so new work can be fitted to suit the period of the property.
Do you supply materials or do I buy them?
We can supply materials and show you the options available. If you already have something in mind, tell us and we will talk it through when we quote.
Are you insured?
Yes, PW Carpentry is fully insured, and our team is professionally trained.
